Energy efficient homes are not just for millenials or home buyers that are conscientious about the environment. Energy savings are sought and realized by many new home buyers today. So how does a home buyer determine if their new home offers the right level of energy efficiency they seek? Consumers can use a HERS rating as a guide to understand how efficient their new home will be.

What is a HERS Rating?

A Home Energy Rating (HERS) is a measurement of a home’s energy efficiency. The lower the number, the more efficient.

Recent Ratings from Homes Built by VE Homes

HERS Ratings are determined by third party evaluations and they typically show that homes built by VE Homes are generally 25% more efficient in their energy performance than some of our competitors. This greater level of efficiency just adds more value to a new home purchased from VE Homes. How does VE Homes ensure every customer receives these energy savings? At the end of construction, every home is tested with a blower door test to make sure that the home performs as intended and leaks have been minimized.

A Blower Door Test is used during an energy audit, and is able to locate air leaks by attaching a fan to a doorway to depressurize the home.

VE Homes conducts a blower door test on every home that we build. What are the benefits?

Blower Door Test Benefits

  1. Third Party Testing Verifies There Are No Possible Drafts, Air Leaks, or Missing Insulation Ensuring Your Home is More Energy Efficient.
  2. Improved Efficiency Means Less Emissions of Greenhouse Gases and a Smaller Carbon Footprint.
  3. Peace of Mind For Saving Money on Your Utility Bill.
  4. Validates That the Home Provides Better Indoor Air Quality.
  5. Confirms the Home’s Efficiency and Extends the Life of Your Air Conditioning System.
